A TRUE ADVENTURER'S SOUL
Jonathan David Francis was born March 5, 1982 in Northfield, Minnesota. He grew up in Stillwater, Minnesota, and graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Through college and just after, he spent several summers working at Luther Heights Bible Camp in the Sawtooth Mountains of Central Idaho ("Camp Luthy," as he and others affectionately called it, and as it was listed on old topo maps). When he disappeared July 15, 2006, he was working at Luther Heights for the summer, and was also a youth pastor at Ascension Lutheran Church in Ogden, Utah. In each of these venues, he touched the lives of so many.
Jon was a runner, a questioner, a selfless minister and mentor. He led by his actions; he loved children and they loved him. He was genuine, authentic, and comfortable in himself, and he helped others feel and be the same. He was patient, energetic, playful, and humble; he made each of us around him want to be more and better. He loved to laugh, and he loved to listen; he was gentle, and he was gracious; he lived his life fully, and he encouraged others to do the same.
July 15th, 2016 will mark ten years we've been without Jon, but we refuse to forget him, and we delight in remembering the ways in which he's touched each of our lives. We'd like to spend a few days with each of you celebrating the man he was, the way he touched each of our lives. We hope you'll join us.
